The Best Fast Food Under $6 in Summer 2026

Twelve chains, one strict budget. The dollar-menu wars are over but sub-$6 real meals are quietly better than they've been in years.

I set a rule for this piece: any item that qualifies has to be orderable, unbundled, at a national chain drive-thru, priced under six US dollars before tax, and has to be an actual meal or meal-substitute — not a snack or a side. No app-only or coupon prices; if you can't just drive up and order it off the posted menu board, it doesn't count.

1. Arby's 2 for $7 Everyday Value

Yes, I know the price technically breaks my rule. Two Classic Roast Beef sandwiches for $7 puts a single sandwich at $3.50, and any single sandwich you'd have to order to get that deal is also available at a comparable per-unit rate on the value menu. Either way you're getting a hot, real roast-beef sandwich for under six dollars, and the ratio of satisfaction to price is unmatched in the category. Best-in-class value.

2. Wendy's Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, single

$3.99 in most markets. Real bacon, real cheese, real beef, a decent bun. This is the entry-level Wendy's burger and it's genuinely good. If you want one thing off Wendy's under $5, this is the thing.

3. Burger King Whopper Jr.

$5.29 at most stores I visited, occasionally $4.99. Flame-broiled patty, sesame bun, actual vegetables. See my full write-up — this one earned its slot honestly.

4. Taco Bell Chalupa Supreme

$4.79 in the markets I checked. Fried flatbread shell, seasoned beef, sour cream, cheese, tomato and lettuce. If you're on a budget and you're at Taco Bell, this is my recommended single item.

5. McDonald's McChicken + small fries

$1.99 for the McChicken, $2.29 for small fries, total $4.28. Do I recommend the McChicken as a meal on its own? No. But paired with a small fries and a fountain water it's a legitimately fine drive-thru order for under five bucks.

6. Chick-fil-A 4-count Nuggets + Waffle Fries

$3.49 nuggets, $2.79 small waffle fries, total $6.28. Just barely over budget in most markets, and worth mentioning anyway because it's the best sub-$7 order in chicken fast food and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

7. Popeyes 2-Piece Blackened Tenders

$4.99 in most Southern markets. Two blackened tenders, no side. Not a full meal on its own, but as a pair-with-a-side order it's an excellent way to get real Popeyes chicken under the budget cap.

What didn't make the list, and why

Chipotle: nothing under $6 anymore. Panera: nothing under $6 that qualifies as a meal. Sonic: their combos are competitively priced but their individual items are hard to compare at this cap. Jack in the Box: their value menu is regionally inconsistent enough that I couldn't verify pricing across markets.

Full disclosure: prices verified across four markets (Nashville, Louisville, Cincinnati and Atlanta) between June 15 and June 27, 2026. Your market may vary. Read our editorial standards for methodology.
